Football seeks sixth-straight win at Urbana

This Week: Notre Dame College football heads to Urbana University tomorrow, October 14. Kickoff at Urbana University Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on live radio, provided through ESPN Cleveland 1540 KNR2 and live video will also be provided through Urbana Athletics.

Records: Notre Dame College is 5-1 after a 19-14 victory against Fairmont State. Urbana is 3-3 (2-3 MEC) after a 51-41 loss at UVa.-Wise.

Coaches Corner: Mike Jacobs is in his second year as the head coach of the NDC football program. He has an overall record of 14-3 (13-3 MEC). Tyler Haines is in his third season with Urbana. Haines has a record of 8-20 in his three years at the helm.

Rankings: Notre Dame received three points in the October 9 AFCA Coaches Poll, but was not ranked in the top 25. UU received no votes.

Series History: The Falcons and Blue Knights are tied 3-3 in a series dating back to 2010. NDC is on a three-game winning streak in the series with wins of 28-13 (2014), 47-30 (2015) and 35-14 (2016).

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame is coming off what is possibly the most important win of the season. In a 19-14 victory against Fairmont State, the Falcons not only defeated a team that was 4-0 in conference play, but they also moved themselves up to the number two spot in the MEC behind 5-0 Shepherd. The Flacons had a season-high 85 offensive plays against FSU, which included 51 rushing plays and 34 passing. NDC has ran the ball over 50 times in each of its last four games and rank seventh in the country with 267.7 yards per game.

Noting the Blue Knights: Urbana ranks near the middle of the MEC in most statistical categories, but rank No. 1 in three major areas. The Blue Knights have the best punting game in the conference, averaging 39.3 net yards per attempt. UU also ranks second in punt return average (18.4) and have scored two return TDs this year. The team ranks first in sacks with 24 as one of only two teams to hit the 20 sack mark so far. Lastly, Urbana leads the conference in time of possession. The Blue Knights have been able to hang on to the ball for an average of 32:31 minutes per game.

Making His Points: Redshirt-freshman Tanner Harding made two field goals last week, which included the first three points of the game and only score for NDC in the second half. Harding has now made six of his last seven attempts and has scored 27 points (18 on field goals, nine on extra points) in the last three weeks. Overall, he has made four field goals longer than 30 yards.

By the Numbers

2:
Turnovers forced by junior linebacker RJ Goodwin last week against FSU. Goodwin intercepted a pass that set up the first points of the game and caused a timely fumble later in the game. Both turnovers came in NDC territory.

22: Third-down conversions allowed by the NDC defense. The Falcons rank first in the MEC in third-down conversion percentage (27.8) as opponents have attempted 79 plays on third down.

40: Runs by Malik Grove that resulted in first downs or touchdowns. Grove has 97 rush attempts this season.
