Community Outreach

Notre Dame College Athletic programs engage in Community Outreach programs every year, and are constantly looking for new ways to get involved. 

Below, are stories and examples of what the Falcons have done to get involved in Community Outreach dating back to 2013.

Make-A-Wish Walk    
  • Women’s Lacrosse participated and volunteered in a 5k (2020)
 
  • Baseball raked leaves at homes of the elderly within South Euclid, through the Partnership of Aging (2019, 2020) The team also attended the community center four times to help run groceries to cars and unload delivery trucks (2020)
 
  • Softball raked leaves for the elderly at their homes in South Euclid (2019) and volunteered at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank (2020) The team played in the Tri-C Against Cancer games and invited a girl from the Board of Developmental Disabilities to be a part of the team (2019)
 
  • Men’s Soccer has donated and dropped off extra socks in downtown Cleveland for the homeless. The team is also participating uniform donation in Cincinnati and Cleveland (2018, 2019, 2020)
 
  • Women’s Soccer went to Metro Health for the Medworks clinic. They assisted people from appointment to appointment, helped physicians in wellness exams and facilitated the patients’ schedule for the day (2019)
 
  • Football volunteered with Habitat for Humanity on weekends for home construction as well as the Purple Hearts Fund (2018, 2019)
 
  • Men’s Basketball put on a basketball clinic for developmentally disabled adults (2018, 2019)
 
  • Volleyball attended a Buddy Walk for Down’s Syndrome (2018) and the Dig Match at the Gathering Place (2019)
 
  • Women’s Basketball invited autistic and developmentally disabled children to practices and games (2018, 2019)12426
 
  • Men’s & Women’s Swimming hosted a Swim Clinic with Brush High School (2018) and a Paralympic Swim Camp (2019)
 
  • Upon conclusion of a women’s basketball game, “Honorary Falcon” Kelly, and her family, were surprised with a trip to the Bahamas. Falcon Athletics raised money for the Make-A-Wish foundation to send Kelly on this vacation (2017) (Falcons and Make-a-Wish send Kelly to the Bahamas)
 
  • The Falcons have a very strong partnership with the foundation and during the 2016-17 season, the 25 teams raised over $4,200 (2017) (Make-a-Wish 2016-17 Totals)
 
  • Football worked in unison with the rest of the Notre Dame Falcon community to raise over 1,500 bottles of water to send to those in need in Flint, Michigan (2016) (Falcons Unite to send water to Flint)

  • The Notre Dame College Athletic Department hosts its annual event to beat breast cancer. Each NDC athletic team participates to raise awareness and/or funds for specific breast cancer organizations that have a special meaning to each team (2015) (Sock it to Breast Cancer 2015)

  • The NDC coaching staff worked tirelessly to sign 4-year-old Max to Notre Dame College football, facilitated by Team IMPACT (2015) (Max signs with NDC Football)
 
  • NDC hosts iCanBike Cleveland for a week-long event in June where children and young people, some of whom have disabilities, learn to ride a bike on their own (2015) (ICan Bike 2015)
 
  • Sock It 2 Breast Cancer is an annual fundraising event for various breast cancer foundations, put on by the Notre Dame College Athletic Department (2014) (Sock it to Breast Cancer 2014)
 
  • Women’s golf program participated in the Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program. The program allows the team the opportunity to honor a fallen or severely wounded soldier (2014) (Folds of Honor)
 
  • The camp is hosted by NDC and put on by iCanBike to help campers aged 8-19 with special needs learn how to ride a conventional bicycle (2014) (ICan Bike 2014)
   
  • Notre Dame College was announced as the Second Place Winner for the First Annual NCAA Division II Award of Excellence for their service project “40 Days of Lent, 40 Days of Service” (2014) (40 Days of Lent, 40 Days of Service NCAA Award)
 
  • As a part of “40 Days of Lent, 40 Days of Service” program created by SAAC, the NDC softball team committed to donating money to Make-A-Wish for every hit they recorded (2014) (Softball Make-A-Wish)
 
  • SAAC and the College’s 22 athletic teams are partnering with campus offices and organizations across campus to conduct at least one fundraising event each day during Lent (2013)(40 Days of Lent Original Story)
 
  • Football hosted Tucker, a Make-A-Wish child, and his family for a football home game with all access passes (2013) (Football  Make-A-Wish 2013)
 
  • Members across the nation of the American Football Coaches Association wore a Coach to Cure MD logo patch on the sidelines in support of the program to raise money to battle Duchenne muscular dystrophy (2013) (Coach to Cure MD)
 
  • Women’s soccer team have been active this off-season, coaching youth soccer and also helping at the Jason Madachy Foundation Dinner (2013) (Women’s Soccer in the Community)
 
  • The bowling team took a break from preparing for the national tournament to volunteer at Life’s Little Adventure Farm and participate in the Bowl for a Cure campaign at Sequoia Pro Bowl (2013) (Bowling Community Service)
