SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- On Sunday afternoon, the first annual Make-A-Wish Walk was held on the campus of Notre Dame College. The proceeds went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and to Sean Kukoleck, an NDC men's golfer who is battling cancer.
The day started in the Keller Center parking lot and each group maintained a safe distance as they began the walk toward College Road. The one-mile walk stretched around the block and ended in front of the Keller Center, where hot chocolate and hot dogs were served.
"The best part of my job as an Athletic Director is helping our student-athletes grow into great citizens," Director of Athletics
Scott Swain said. "Events like this walk proves to me, once again, how our Falcon student-athletes have their priorities in the right place. I love to interact with our student-athletes in settings like this; it is so rewarding on so many levels. To have an extremely successful event while following all the COVID protocol was a challenge but we pulled it off. These two causes were chosen by our SAAC student-athletes and I am so proud of them for selecting them."
"I've never been more proud to be a Falcon than I was on Sunday," SAAC President and NDC swimmerÂ
Delaney Gasaway said. "The love and support from all the athletic teams was amazing. I can't say thank you enough to everyone who showed up. Sean, we are here for you every step of the way."
The NDC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) planned the entire event. The great turnout featured student-athletes from several Notre Dame athletic programs who came out to support.
"I thought the walk turnout was absolutely incredible," said
Kelsey Stopp, Head Softball Coach and Senior Woman Administrator who oversees SAAC. "I am proud of our student-athletes for taking time out of their day to support Sean and the Make-A -Wish Foundation. Being an Alumni of NDC, it made me extremely grateful to be a part of this community. The weather for the day could not have been more perfect and being able to help a Falcon of our own made it that much better."
