Notre Dame College Athletics and SAAC host third annual Make-A-Wish walk

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame College Make-A-Wish Walk was held on another beautiful day, last Sunday. The proceeds went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and to Sean Kukoleck, an NDC men's golfer who is now in remission after battling brain cancer. Sean is now a senior at Notre Dame and, along with playing golf, is interning with the athletic department.

The NDC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) planned the event, as they have done every year. Several hundred student-athletes from numerous NDC athletic programs attended the walk with signs to show support.

"The Make-A-Wish Walk for Sean has become one of the most important events we do here at NDC," said NDC SAAC President Delaney Gasaway. "Fighting cancer in general is difficult, but having friends and family there for you makes it worth fighting. I cannot tell you how amazed I was with the turnout we had and, on top of that, seeing all of Sean's family in attendance was the best part. We love doing this event every year and I am so thankful for the support I have had to make this happen."

The day began in the Keller Center parking lot, where photos were taken. The mile long walk through campus and the surrounding neighborhood was delightful on a sunny day with temperatures in the low 70s. Following the walk, hot dogs, sports drinks and water were handed out to the participants.

"One of the best parts of my job as an Athletic Director is serving as advisor to our SAAC group and helping our student-athletes grow into great citizens." said Scott Swain, Vice President for Athletics. "Events like this walk prove to me, once again, how our Falcon student-athletes have their priorities in the right place. I love to interact with our student-athletes in settings like this; it is rewarding on so many levels. For the third year in a row to have an extremely successful event is awesome. These two causes were chosen by our SAAC student-athletes and I am so proud of them for making those selections."
