Individual ResultsPIPESTEM, W.Va -- The Notre Dame College women's golf team concluded their Spring season with a first place finish at the Mountain East Conference Spring Invitational on Sunday, April 19 and Monday, April 20. The Falcons were highlighted by
Michiko Smith, who placed second overall individuallywhile leading NDC to a first place finish with a combined team score of 674 at the Invitational.
Playing at the 6,264-yard Pipestem Golf Course, Smith shot an 81 on day one of competition. On the second and final day of the Invitional, Smith cut one stroke off her score and shot an 80 on day two, good for a combined score of 161 and second place overall.
Close behind Smith on the leaderboard was Christi Bilas, who finished the Invitational with a combined score of 166, tying her for fifth place overall. Bilas shot an 85 on Sunday before improving to an 81 score on Monday afternoon to pick up a top-five placing for the Falcons.
Brianna Stokes placed T-12th overall at the MEC Spring Invitational to help the Falcons cause. Stokes shot an 81 on Monday to end the Invitational on a strong note, finishing with a combined score of 171.
Rachel Williamson (182 overall score, T-23rd) and
Taylor Downey (183, T-25th) also picked up Top-25 placings to help the Falcons end the year with a first place finish.Â
Falcons garner MEC HonorsAfter winning the Fall 2014 MEC Championship in October and the MEC Spring Invitational, the Falcons were awarded with several honors, the MEC announced Monday.Â
Colleen Groomes was named Mountain East Conference Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season after directing the Falcons to new heights this past season.
Michiko Smith was named First Team All-Mountain East Conference while Christi Bilas was named Second Team All-Mountain East Conference.
Brianna Stokes and
Rachel Williamson also earned MEC Honorable Mention honors.
The All-MEC teams, along with Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, are determined by scoring in select Mountain East Conference events. The MEC Coach of the Year is determined by a vote of the league's coaches.
