CANTON, Ohio / CALIFORNIA, Pa. – A pair of top five finishes highlight the NDC golf program's season opening weekend at the Malone Fall Classic and Vulcan Invitational.
Freshman
Peter Malo Jr. and graduate student
Alex Rapp led the way for the NDC men's team at the Malone Fall Classic, by each turning in two-day scores of 147 (+3). Malo Jr. in his collegiate debut was steady the entire weekend with a first round score of 73 (+1), followed up with a 74 (+2) on day two. Rapp entered the clubhouse after day one with a 76 (+4) and tied for 15
th place. In his second round, the Poland, Ohio native rebounded to shoot a 71 (-1), the fourth lowest round by any golfer over the weekend, to earn the top five finish.
Also making their collegiate debut's, in a field of 59 golfers, freshman
Ronan Steel concluded 21
st with a 154 (76, 79), alongside freshman
Zach Huscusson who shot a 157 (77, 80) and tied for 23
rd.
On the women's side, senior
Erin Frey and sophomore
Catalina Uribe paved the way at the Vulcan Invitational, finishing in a tied for 22
nd. The duo each turned in two-day scores of 168, as Frey shot 82, 86, followed by Uribe's 86, 82.
Senior
Olivia Jackson added a 29
th place finish in a field of 55 competitors, as she shot a 170 (86, 84).
Next week, the NDC golf program will be back in action on Sept. 10-12 at the UC Invitational located in Charleston, W.Va.
