WARREN, Ohio – The Notre Dame College women's golf team placed sixth, while the men's team finished eighth at the annual MEC Men's & Women's Golf Championships, taking place over a three-day span on Monday Oct. 2 to Wednesday Oct. 4.
Senior
Erin Frey paved the way for Notre Dame positioning herself in 13
th place with a three-day score of 247 (85, 79, 83). Frey enjoyed the par 5s, posting an average score of 5.33, the sixth best mark in the field. The Medina, Ohio native aided the NDC women's team to a 5.75 average on the par 5s, the third best mark amongst the eight squads. The Falcons added an average score of 4.00 (5
th) on par 3s and 5.08 (6
th) on par 4s.
Sophomore
Catalina Uribe finished in 15
th at 250 strokes (79, 81, 90) after the three days, as freshman
Alayna Smith placed t-29
th (111, 102, 105) and senior
Olivia Jackson totaled 88, 85 over two-days.
A trio of freshman paved the way for the NDC men's side which totaled 643 strokes, led by
Peter Malo Jr. led the Falcons with a 156 (76, 82) to finish in a tie for 24
th place.
Ronan Steel and
Zach Huscusson shot a 161 (80, 81) and 162 (80, 82), respectively place in a tie for 29
th and 32
nd.
Senior Branden Nunez turned in a 163 (83, 80), while graduate student
Alex Rapp added a score of 166 (82, 84) for t-36
th and t-41
st placements.
The NDC men played well on the par 3s and par 4s, posting average scores of 3.68 and 4.51, respectively, the fourth best marks amongst the teams in competition. However, the Falcons struggled on par 5s, owning an average of 5.30 strokes per, ninth out of the 10 teams present.
The 2023 Mountain East Conference Men's & Women's Golf Championship were held at Avalon Lakes and Country Club on a pristine par 72 course stretching 7,225 yards for the men's championship and 6,062 yards for the women's championship.
