Men’s soccer travels for one game this week

This Week: Notre Dame College men's soccer will play just one game this week, at Frostburg State. The matchup with the Bobcats will take place on Oct. 11, at 4:30 p.m.
 
Records: NDC currently has a record of 8-2-2 (5-2-2 MEC), accumulating 17 points on the year and sitting in second place in the MEC standings. FSU holds a record of 5-7 (2-7 MEC).
 
Coaches Corner: Carl Nolan is in his eighth season as head coach of the Notre Dame program and 19th as a member of the coaching staff. He has an overall coaching record of 87-34-13, while going 70-22-9 against MEC competition. Keith Byrnes is in year number 22 on the sideline at Frostburg.
 
Rankings: Notre Dame is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches (USC) NCAA Division II top 25. NDC is currently No. 4.in the USC's Atlantic Region Poll.
 
Series History: NDC is 7-1 all-time when going up against FSU. Since the first matchup in 2019, NDC has shutout the Bobcats five times, including the first matchup of this season, on Sept. 13, when Notre Dame won 3-0 as Mirai Sato scored twice and Guilherme Wanderley had the third goal. Frostburg State's only win in the series came on Sept. 26, 2021.
 
Noting the Falcons: Last week, Notre Dame went up against No. 7 Charleston. The Golden Eagles were able to score early and often in a 5-0 UC victory. NDC was held to a season-low seven shots. The Falcons bounced back with a 3-1 win over Davis & Elkins, ending the regular season series with a 1-0-1 record versus the Senators. The Falcons ended a streak of 135 scoreless minutes when Ailton Fagner Silva scored in the 39th minute. Silva scored twice in the game and Evans Armah had an assist and a goal. NDC outshot D&E, 17-8.
 
NDC still leads the conference with 32 goals scored this season and ranks second with 2.67 goals per game. AIlton Silva leads the club, and the MEC, with 34 shots taken and 20 shots on goal. Mirai Sato is tied at the top of the conference with nine goals and three game-winning goals. He has 18 points, which ranks second in the MEC. Evans Armah leads the MEC with six assists and Danilo Abayo Wilson leads the conference with six shutouts.
 
In the national Division II rankings, NDC is in the top 10 with 32 total goals (5th), seven shutouts (5th), 89 total points (6th), 25 assists (8th), a plus-21 goal differential (9th) and 8.33 shots on goal per game (10th). Mirai Sato is seventh in the country with nine goals. Danilo Wilson ranks fourth in shutouts (6) and fifth in goalie minutes played (1,061).

Noting the Bobcats: Frostburg State started the year going 3-1 in its first four games. Since then, the Bobcats have gone 2-6. Last week, they lost to Davis & Elkins and Concord by a combined score of 6-0. Against Davis & Elkins, both teams took 12 shots, but FSU could not find the net.
 
Carlos Quintero Rivas is tied for second in the MEC this year with 28 shots. He is fifth in the conference in goals, with five, and tied for the league lead with three game winners. Laki Psallidas is sixth in the MEC with four assists. Goalkeeper Joel Assal leads the MEC in saves (61) and saves per game (5.08). Assal also ranks eighth in the country in total saves. FSU has scored 19 goals, which ranks fourth in the conference, but they have allowed 22 goals, which is second most.
