NDC to honor men’s rugby and soccer programs during basketball double-header

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – At halftime of Wednesday's women's basketball game in the Murphy Gymnasium, the Notre Dame College men's rugby team will be honored on the floor as their National Championship banner is unveiled. During halftime of the men's basketball contest, the men's soccer team will be recognized for reaching the NCAA Division II Tournament for the second consecutive season.

Men's rugby had an incredible run last fall, putting together a record of 6-1-1 in the regular season before moving through the National Collegiate Rugby Division I Playoffs. The Falcons defeated No. 5 ranked Siena, by a score of 50-0 in the NCR Quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Notre Dame beat No. 4 Indiana, 26-13. The National Championship Game pinned NDC up against No. 3 St. Bonaventure, a rematch of a Nov. 4 matchup, in which the Falcons came out on top, 28-19.

NDC brought home its first fall National Championship since 2016, with a 33-10 win over St. Bonaventure. After the season, Cameron Mills, Tanner Smith, Remy Thomson and Lachy McDonald were named All-Americans, while 10 players were given a spot on Goff Rugby Report's Hot 100 list.

The men's soccer program had another double-digit win season and started the campaign with a win over No. 4 ranked Lake Erie College. The Falcons then qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament for the seventh time since joining the NCAA in 2012. It was the first time that the team had gone to national playoffs in back-to-back seasons since 2014 and 2015.

The postseason honors included All-Region awards for Juan Pineda, Jared Rimmer, Mirai Sato, Evans Armah and Connor O'Reilly. O'Reilly and Rimmer were named to the Academic All-District Team. Armah, O'Reilly, Pineda and Sato earned All-Mountain East Conference First Team, Danilo Abayo Wilson was named to the All-MEC Second Team. Carlos Almeida, Callum Cleary, Ailton Fagner Silva and Jared Rimmer were given Honorable Mention, while Will Couch took a spot on the MEC All-Freshman Team.
