Three named All-Region from NDC men's soccer

ATHENS, W.Va. -- Following another double-digit win season and a second consecutive trip to the the NCAA Division II Tournament by Notre Dame College men's soccer, the D2 Conference Commissioners Association announced on Tuesday that NDC's Juan Pineda, Jared Rimmer and Mirai Sato were named to the All-Atlantic Region Second Team. This is the eighth consecutive season that NDC has had multiple players named D2CCA All-Region. (Release)

All three of these NDC student-athletes are earning their first All-Region honors.

Pineda takes this award after being named All-Mountain East Conference First Team in his first year with the Falcons. He played, and started, every game and was second on the team in minutes played, at 1,605. The native of Guadalajara, Mexico was instantly a major part of an Notre Dame defense that was fourth in the MEC by allowing 1.16 goals per game and tied for second in the conference with eight shutouts. In addition to his work on defense, he also totaled three goals on the year, which included a two-goal performance on Sept. 20, against Wheeling.

After taking Academic All-District honors last week, Rimmer adds All-Region to list of awards. Despite sitting out a few games in the middle of the season due to injury, he still appeared in 16 contests and 1,249 minutes. Rimmer was another important part of the defensive side of the field, as NDC allowed multiple goals in only six games and allowed more that two goals in just three matches. The Sydney, Australia native was also a major contributor on the offensive side, ranking third on the team, and tied for eighth in the MEC, with five assists.

Sato dealt with injuries that ended his season early, but he still earned All-MEC First Team honors. The forward from Japan led the team in goals (9), points (19) and game-winning goals (3). He helped get the Falcons moving in the right direction when he scored the first goal of the season, and the game-winner, in a 3-0 win over No. 4 Lake Erie, on Aug. 31. Sato would end the season with four multi-goal games and is currently fifth in the conference in goals, third in game-winners and eighth in points.
