Football jumps back into top 25 ranking before playoffs

WACO, Tex. – The final regular season American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II top 25 poll was released on Monday. Notre Dame College is tied at No. 24 with 40 points after finishing the regular season with a record of 9-2. (Poll)

The Falcons had been receiving votes for multiple weeks, but are appearing in the national poll for the first time since Oct. 3. NDC closed the regular season with a 27-3 road victory over Alderson Broaddus. Over the last three weeks, Notre Dame has outscored its opponents 84-9, with the defense allowing just one touchdown in that span.

Last Saturday, NDC and Alderson Broaddus were tied at three at halftime, with rain falling the entire game. The Falcons broke through in the third quarter with a touchdown run by Idris Lawrence and a touchdown pass from Chris Brimm to Andre Allen Jr. Brimm then ran for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Notre Dame's defense sacked quarterback Levi Gullion three times and intercepted four passes. Cael Bright, Tavon Hooks, Jacalyn Morrison and DeMarcus Rankin all recorded an interception.

Next weekend, Notre Dame will take on No. 12 ranked Ashland, in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. NDC is the five seed in the bracket and Ashland will host as the four seed.

The matchup between Ashland and Notre Dame will start at 1 p.m., on Nov. 19.
