Notre Dame College football is fifth in the 2021 College Football America Yearbook's Division II Preseason top 30. NDC is the only team in the top 5 that competed last season, as the Falcons went 5-0 and won their third consecutive Mountain East Conference Championship in the spring. The 2020 NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament was canceled.
In the 2019 season, NDC won 12 games, including nine MEC contests. After being crowned MEC Champions, the No. 13 ranked Falcons defeated No. 22 West Chester University (31-24) and No. 17 Kutztown University (20-17) and advanced to the NCAA D2 Quarterfinals. NDC fell just short to No. 8 Slippery Rock University, on the road.
West Florida won the 2019 National Championship and is the top team in this season's preseason poll.
The Falcons are preparing to kick off the 2021 season and will host Ashland University, Sept. 4, on Mueller Field. That game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
Division II lineup: College Football America also released their preseason D2 starting lineup. Notre Dame's
Brandon Nicholson earned a spot on the offensive line and
Guam Lee was given the nod at linebacker.
Top of the class: Last week, The College Football Network announced their top 20 Division II offensive tackles, guards and centers. For the second consecutive season, the entire NDC offensive line was listed. That includes Nicholson (1st) and
Michael Kyle (10th) at tackle,
Jimmy Burchett (1st) and
Adam Riegler (7th) at guard and
Nick Beans (6th) at center.
