Nicholson, Lee, Holloway take D2CCA All-America honors

WICHITA FALLS, Tex. – For the second time in program history, three student-athletes from Notre Dame College were given Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Football All-America honors. Seniors Brandon Nicholson and Guam Lee were named First Team All-Americans, while sophomore Antoine Holloway II is a Second Team member. (Release)

Notre Dame had an 11-2 record this season and won their fourth consecutive Mountain East Conference title. The Falcons also won an NCAA Division II playoff game for the third consecutive year.

The program has had three players recognized as D2CCA All-Americans once before, in 2018.

Nicholson continues to receive the honors after another stellar season on the offensive line. The left tackle from Bedford, Ohio was named All-Mountain East Conference First Team, D2CCA All-Super Region One First Team and took second place in the voting for the Gene Upshaw Award, given to the top lineman in NCAA Division II. That was the highest finish for the award by anyone in program history. He was a part of an offensive line that allowed just eight sacks, which was tied for fourth in the country. The offensive line blocked for a rushing offense that ran for 2,592 yards, rankings 15th in Division II, and averaged 199.5 rush yards per game, which ranks 25th in D2.

Lee, a linebacker, became the first player in program history to be named MEC Defensive Player of the Year. He also grabbed All-MEC First Team, D2CCA All-Super Region One First Team and became just the second player in program history to be named All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). He earned AFCA Second Team Defense. Lee had 23 tackles for loss, which tied him for third in D2 this season in that category. The Farmington Hills, Mich. native broke a program record with five forced fumbles and tied an NDC record with three fumble recoveries. He returned two fumbles for touchdowns. Lee led the team, and ranked tied for 26th in D2, with 58 solo tackles and was at the top of the squad with 87 total tackles, while ranking second on the team with 29 assisted tackles. He finished the season tied for 23rd in Division II with nine sacks.

Holloway helped the Falcons all over the field on defense in his first season with NDC. The sophomore safety has already earned All-MEC First Team and D2CCA All-Super Region Once First Team. He is the first defensive back in program history to be named an All-American. Holloway tied the NDC single-season record with six total interceptions this season. He is tied for seventh in NCAA Division II in 2021 in interceptions. The native of Maple Heights, Ohio had two, two interception games and scored twice, once with a fumble recovery and once with a pick-six. Holloway finished the season with nine passes defensed.

The only other player from the Mountain East Conference to be named to the First or Second Team was Frostburg State's Carl Igweh.

Nicholson, Lee and Holloway were also named First Team All-Americans by The College Football Network, last week.
