This Week:Â Notre Dame College men's soccer will travel to the University of Charleston on Nov. 10 for a matchup in the Mountain East Conference Tournament Semifinals. First kick is scheduled for 6 p.m.
MEC Tournament: The other semifinal matchup will feature the top seed Davis & Elkins against the No. 4 seed Frostburg State. That game will kickoff an hour before NDC faces Charleston. The winners will advance to the MEC championship game, hosted by the highest seed, on Nov. 14.
Records: NDC is the three seed in the tournament and the Falcons enter with a record of 9-4-2 (8-4-2 MEC), while Charleston is the two seed and have a record of 15-1-1 (14-1-1 MEC).
Coaches Corner: Carl Nolan is in his sixth season as head coach of the Notre Dame program. He has an overall record of 63-26-9 with a 54-17-6 MEC mark. Daniel Smee has been at the helm of the Charleston program for two seasons and has a record of 25-1-1, overall, and 22-1-1 in the MEC.
Rankings:Â Charleston is ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches top 25 poll. In the regional rankings, the Golden Eagles are second in Super Region One.
Series History:Â Notre Dame has a record of 3-18-3 all-time against UC since the two teams first met in 2012.
Noting the Falcons:Â Notre Dame will face Charleston in the MEC Tournament for the third consecutive season. The past two matchups have come in the championship game. NDC picked up its ninth win of the season last Wednesday when the Falcons defeated Concord, 3-0. Excluding the shortened spring 2021 season, the NDC men's soccer program has now won at least nine games in 14 consecutive campaigns.
Ned Dry ranks 26th in NCAA Division II with 11 total goals, ranks 27th with 26 points and is 24th in both goals per game (0.73) and points per game (1.73).
Lukas Hackaa is 20th in the country in assists per game (0.53) and 21st in total assists, with eight. Three of Hackaa's seven goals this season have been game-winners, which leads the team.
Ailton Fagner Silva is 25th in the nation with 1.71 points per game. Silva has nine goals and six assists this season.
Alexandru Rumleanschi leads the squad with 1,349 minutes played.
As a team, the Falcons are second in D2 with 3.6 goals per game and 10.13 points per game. They rank third in assists per game (2.93), fourth in total goals (54), sixth in total points (152) and 10th in total assists (44). NDC has six players who have scored at least four goals and six players with at least four assists. The Falcons have scored at least five goals, five times.
Noting the Golden Eagles: Charleston has defeated every team on their regular season schedule except Davis & Elkins. The Senators beat UC, 1-0, in their first matchup in Charleston and the teams played to a 1-1 draw on Oct. 27. Charleston has had some time to rest, as they have only played one game in the last 10 days. They defeated Concord 7-0 last Sunday. The UC defense allowed the Mountain Lions to take one shot.
Alejandro Larrayoz leads the team, and ranks third in the MEC with 10 goals. He also has three game-winners, while primarily coming off the bench with just five starts. Gabriel Rodriguez is not far behind with nine goals. Adrian Camacho leads the Golden Eagles with seven assists, but Ploutarchos Alonefti and James Raptis both have assisted on six goals. Goalkeeper Marc Torrado is 10th in Division II with a goals against average of 0.701.
Charleston has six players with four, or more, goals. The Golden Eagles lead the country with 3.71 goals per game, a goal differential of plus-52, 59 total assists, 3.47 assists per game and 10.88 points per game. They are second in D2 with 63 total goals and 185 total points.
