This Week:Â Notre Dame College men's soccer plays one game this week, as they head to West Virginia Wesleyan College for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Bobcats on Oct. 27.
Records:Â NDC has a 7-3-2 (6-3-2 MEC) record and currently sit third in the Mountain East Conference standings with 20 points. West Virginia Wesleyan enters the contest with a 6-6-2 record and a 4-6-2 MEC mark. They are currently one spot outside of the MEC Tournament, in fifth place, with 14 points.
Coaches Corner: Carl Nolan is in his sixth season as head coach of the Notre Dame program. He has a record of 61-25-9, and is 52-16-6 in MEC play. Gavin Donaldson is now in year 31 with WVWC. He holds a 359-198-58 record.
Rankings:Â None of these teams are ranked in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
Series History:Â Notre Dame holds an 11-3-3 record versus W.Va. Wesleyan since the two teams first met in 2013. On Oct. 10, NDC and WVWC played to a 2-2 draw.
Noting the Falcons:Â Notre Dame had a successful week, scoring 11 goals over two games. The Falcons defeated Seton Hill, 7-0, and then took down Frostburg State by a score of 4-0. It was the first time this season that the NDC defense shutout back-to-back opponents.
Malvin Gblah earned MEC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals and assisting on two others, last week. His goal in the game against SHU, last Wednesday, was his first of the season.
NDC has now scored four, or more, goals in six games. They are still the highest scoring team in NCAA Division II with 3.83 goals per match. The Falcons are also first in the nation with 11 points per game. In terms of other top 10 rankings in D2, NDC is second in both assists per game (3.33) and total goals (46), third in total points (132) and shots on goal per game (9), fourth in total assists (40) and fifth in corner kicks per game (7).
Ned Dry is 12th in the country with two points per game and 18th with 0.83 goals per contest. He has scored 10 goals (23rd in D2) and racked up 24 points (22nd).
Lukas Hackaa is sixth in the country with 0.67 assists per game and ranks 10th with eight total assists. He leads the team with three game-winning goals. The Falcons have four players with at least five goals (Dry,
Ailton Fagner Silva, Hackaa and
Carlos Almeida).
Noting the Bobcats:Â West Virginia Wesleyan is looking for its first win since Oct. 6, against Frostburg State. Over their last five games, they have gone 0-3-2 and last week, the Bobcats tied with Wheeling and then fell to Charleston 8-1. WVWC got off to a hot start, winning six of their first nine games.
The Bobcats average 1.64 goals per game and have only scored more than two goals in a game, twice, but they have only been shutout in one game this season. Nika Monaselidze leads the team with six goals, six assists and 18 points. Tanner Amos has scored four goals. He is the only player to have double-digit points this season. Logan Nelson has played in, and started 14 games in goal, recording 53 saves.
