Volleyball to host D&E on Tuesday and travel to WVWC on Friday

This week: Notre Dame College volleyball will host Davis & Elkins College on Tuesday Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Buckhannon, WV to face West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
 
Records: Notre Dame enters this week at 12-10 (3-4 MEC) and in fourth place in the MEC North Division. Davis & Elkins begin their week at 9-9 (6-1 MEC) and in second place in the MEC South Division. West Virginia Wesleyan is currently 3-13 (3-4 MEC) and in fourth place in the MEC South Division.
 
Coaches Corner: Hannah Watson and Anthony Mezacapa are in their first season as Co-Head Coaches of the Notre Dame program, with a career record of 12-10. Jordan Willis is in his second season with the D&E Senators, with a career record of 15-9. Nancy Wheeler is in her fifth season with the West Virginia Wesleyan team, and has a career record of 33-82.
 
Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the AVCA Coaches Poll.
 
Series History: NDC has a 2-5 record all-time when facing Davis & Elkins since 2012. Also, NDC has a 5-3 record all-time against West Virginia Wesleyan which dates back to 2012.
 
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame is coming off a week full of three set matches where the team went 1-2. On Tuesday, NDC dismantled Alderson Broaddus 3-0 in front of the home crowd. On Friday, NDC traveled to West Virginia State where they fell 3-0 to a tough Yellow Jacket team. Rounding out their week was their match on Saturday at Charleston when the Falcons fell to the Golden Eagles 3-0.
 
Leading NDC on offense is a three-headed attack of Kelsie Palmer (223), Kaye Dregalla (157) and Grace Smotek (153), who lead the team kills. Palmer is ranked 4th in the Mountain East Conference in total kills and 8th in kills per set (2.86). McKenzie Andrix and Jayme Zoeckler set-up the Falcon's offense with 467 and 299 assists respectively. Andrix's mark of 467 is currently ranked 7th in the MEC. In terms of service, Smotek and Katie Richardson have paced the team with aces at 29 and 25 respectively. 29 and 25 service aces rank the two Falcons at 4th and 9th in the MEC in total aces.
 
Leading NDC on defense has been Amelia Kaeberlein with 380 digs at a rate of 6.13 digs per set. Smotek (276), Andrix (178) and Kiley Kalina (175) post the other top digs on the team to aid Kaeberlein in the backline for NDC. Moreover, Kaeberlein currently sits at 3rd in the MEC in total digs and 2nd in the conference in digs per set. At the net, Carli Derda leads Notre Dame in blocks with 72 on the season which is the 3rd best mark in the MEC, along with her 0.92 blocks per set.
 
In total, Notre Dame College has generated 12.0 kills per set, 11.4 assists per set, 1.5 service aces per set, 19.0 digs per set and 1.7 blocks per set. On the other hand, NDC surrenders 12.1 kills per set, 11.3 assists per set, 1.5 service aces per set, 18.7 digs per set and 1.7 blocks per set.
 
Noting the Senators: Davis & Elkins are entering this week on a hot streak after going 3-0 last week, by playing the minimum amount of sets required. On Tuesday, D&E beat Frostburg State 3-0 at home. On Friday, the Senators swept Fairmont State 3-0 at home. On Saturday, D&E hit the road and took care of business at West Virginia Wesleyan 3-0.
 
Macie Magallon is the player to keep an eye on for D&E and is the driving force behind the Senators attack. Magallon led the Senators in kills each match this past week, with totals of 14, 20, and 17. Moreover, Magallon leads the MEC in total kills (280) and kills per set (5.0).
 
On the season, Davis & Elkins has averaged 12.6 kills per set, 11.5 assists per set, 1.6 service aces per set, 14.8 digs per set and 1.3 blocks per set. They allow the opposition to have 10.6 kills per set, 9.4 assists per set, 1.5 service aces per set, 14.0 digs per set and 1.9 blocks per set.
 
Noting the Bobcats: West Virginia Wesleyan is fresh off a 1-2 week last week, with all matches coming at home. On Tuesday, the Bobcats lost to Fairmont State 3-0. The Bobcats then rebounded on Thursday with a back and forth five-set victory over Frostburg State at home. They rounded out the week with a 3-0 loss to Davis & Elkins at home.
 
At the net, Joelle Lalla is a player to watch on the Bobcats as she leads the team by a wide margin with 44 total blocks. Lalla ranks 8th in total blocks in the MEC and is tied for 5th in blocks per set with 0.88.
 
On the season, WVWC plays to the average of 9.7 kills per set, 9.0 assists per set, 1.5 service aces per set, 10.5 digs per set and 1.5 blocks per set. In comparison, they have allowed 11.8 kills per set, 10.8 assists per set, 1.8 service aces per set, 12.5 digs per set and 1.9 blocks per set.
