Anthony Mezacapa was named head coach of the Notre Dame College volleyball program in December 2021.
He was with the program as an assistant coach in the spring of 2021 and was named co-head coach prior to the fall 2021 season.
In 2021, as a co-head coach, Mezacapa led the team to 16-16 record, including a 7-9 mark in the MEC. The Falcons qualified for the MEC Tournament and they took the first set from the top seed West Virginia State, before falling by just two points in the second and third sets.
Throughout the entire NCAA Division II, NDC ranked 12th in digs with 2,246 and 17th in digs per set with 18.7 in 2021. NDC led the MEC in digs per set and held opponents to a .164 hit percentage, ranking fourth in that category. Senior
Amelia Kaeberlein was ninth in the country, and second in the MEC, in digs per set (6.2) and 17th in D2 in total digs (626). She also broke a program record and tied the MEC record with 44 digs in a match on Nov. 9.
After the season, Amelia Kaeberlein became the third player in program history to be named First Team First Team Academic All-District II. Kaeberlein was also named Second Team All-MEC, while Kelsie Palmer took MEC Honorable Mention.
Mezacapa, a native of Wickliffe, Ohio, brings many years of coaching experience at multiple levels. He has been a Junior Olympic Volleyball Coach since 2014, coaching players from 14-to-16 years old. Prior to making his way to South Euclid, Mezacapa was the varsity volleyball head coach at Wickliffe High School in 2020.
