BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference announced on Monday that
Jaleel McLaughlin was named MEC Offensive Player of the Week alongside West Virginia State's Austin Hensley.
McLaughlin, who helped lead the Notre Dame College football team to a 43-24 victory at West Liberty, ran for 258 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries. The sophomore from Marshville, N.C. averaged 8.3 yards per carry after two long runs of 44 and 70 yards.
After an incredible freshman campaign and a strong start to the 2019 season, McLaughlin now has 2,845 yards in 16 career games. He needs just 155 yards to become the first 3,000-yard rusher in NDC's NCAA Division II history.
Hensley, the quarterback at WVSU, completed 38 of his 59 attempts for 439 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-30 win against Glenville State last week. West Virginia State and Notre Dame are two of three remaining undefeated teams in the MEC (Urbana).
Notre Dame hosts Fairmont State this Saturday, September 21, at 12 p.m.
