This week: No. 6 Notre Dame College will battle West Virginia Wesleyan on September 5 at 4 p.m., at home, and then they travel to West Liberty University for a 3:30 p.m. start on September 9.
Records: The Falcons are currently 2-0, winning their first two contests in shutout fashion. W. Va. Wesleyan is 0-0-2 to start the season and West Liberty is 0-1-0. WLU's game scheduled at Shaw University was canceled.
Coaches Corner: Carl Nolan enters his third season at the helm of the NDC men's soccer program. He currently holds a record of 23-11-3, overall. Gavin Donaldson is in his 27th season as the head coach and has a record of 319-167-51. Thomas Olivier is leading the Hilltoppers in their first season as a program in the Division II era.
Rankings: Notre Dame is currently sixth in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
Series History: The Falcons are 7-2-1 in their all-time series with the Bobcats since 2013. NDC has not played West Liberty.
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame has gotten off to their best start since 2015, when they started the season by winning their initial five games. That season was also the last time they were ranked in the top-ten in NCAA Division II (7th).
David Perez Torralba earned the Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Week award and
Paolo Termine took home Defensive Player of the Week award. This season, the Falcons defeated Gannon 4-0 on August 30, scoring two goals in each half. Torralba assisted on the game winner and then scored a goal of his own. On September 2, the Falcons took down Mercyhurst by a score of 2-0. Torralba scored the game winning goal and Favero had his second goal in as many games.
Daniele De Angelis scooped up four total saves over the first two games.
Connor Russo and Termine also have scored a goal this season. The Falcons shots-on-goal percentage is a solid 52.2-percent, this season. Torralba leads the conference in points (5) while he and Favero lead the conference with two goals on the year. The last time they defeated Gannon and Mercyhurst to begin a season, was 2015.
Noting the Bobcats: The Bobcats' Juwon Akintunde graduated after being one of the most dangerous forwards last season. He led the conference in points (35), points-per-game (1.67), goals (17) and goals-per-game (.810). This season, West Virginia Wesleyan has tied both of their games. Last season, the team tied three games all year. In WVWC's first game against California University of Pa., both teams scored once in the first half and twice in the second half but none in overtime. Cal (Pa.) scored the first goal 10-seconds into the game and W.Va. Wesleyan tied the game at three with less than four minutes remaining in regulation. The Bobcats took 26 shots and 13 on goal. California's goalkeepers Austin Fisher and Lucas Exner combined for nine saves. On September 2, neither WVWC nor Lock Haven University scored in 110 minutes of action. Again, the Bobcats went to overtime, but could not score with 18 shots.
Noting the Hilltoppers: This season, the Hilltoppers have 20 freshmen listed on their roster with only two seniors for their inaugural season. The Hilltoppers first game in the NCAA Division II era came against Newberry College on August 31. WLU took a 2-0 lead into halftime, however, by the 72nd minute, Newberry had tied the game at two. Both teams scored one more time in the final 15 minutes. In overtime, Fabrizio Bucco scored on a breakaway giving NC a 4-3 victory. Newberry took 22 shots and West Liberty totaled 19 shots.
