No. 16 Men's soccer takes on Urbana and Concord, this week

This week: No. 16 Notre Dame College will take on Urbana University, at home, on September 26 at 1 p.m. and then they will travel to Athens, W.Va. to play Concord University on September 30 at 3:30 p.m.

Records: The Falcons are 6-2, overall and 4-2 in the Mountain East Conference. The Blue Knights are 5-2-1 this season and 4-1-1 in the Mountain East Conference while the Mountain Lions are 2-4-1 (2-2-1 MEC).

Coaches Corner: Carl Nolan enters his third season at the helm of the NDC men's soccer program. He currently holds a record of 27-13-3, overall and 20-8-2 in the MEC. Nick Roberts is in his 11th season at the helm of UU and led the Blue Knights to a record of 10-7, 8-4 in the MEC, last season. Steve Barrett is 64-148-18 in 16 seasons at Concord.

Rankings: Notre Dame is currently 16th in the United Soccer Coaches poll.

Series History: The Falcons first played Urbana in 2001 and have an all-time record of 12-6-1 against UU. NDC is 10-0-1 against Concord since 2013.

Noting the Falcons: Last week, Notre Dame fell to Wheeling Jesuit by a score of 2-1 and then defeated Shepherd 1-0 in overtime. On September 20, the Falcons scored first as Guilherme Gloria Albuquerque put the ball in the net during the 17th minute. However, NDC did not score in the second half and the WJU converted on their shots in the 47th minute and 74th minute. Goalkeeper Daniele De Angelis hauled in a season-high eight saves in the contest. In the second game of the week, the Falcons took 15 shots-on-goal and converted on a shot in the 104th minute (second period of overtime) to beat Shepherd. Arthur Favero scored the game-winner to snap NDC's two game losing streak. Favero now leads the team with six goals and 14 points. He ranks 10th in Division II in shots-per-game at 4.63 and is tied for 18th in shots-on-goal per game at 2.25. Against Shepherd, De Angelis had two saves and recorded his sixth shutout of the season, ranking him tied for second in NCAA Division II in shutouts. As a team, Notre Dame scores 2.13 goals-per-game. The upcoming game against Concord will be the second time in two weeks that the Falcons have played the Mountain Lions. On September 12, NDC got two goals from Nicholas Felician and won the game, 3-0.

Noting the Blue Knights: Urbana has won three straight games following a 2-2-1 start and the Blue Knights have slid into second place in the MEC. Against West Liberty on September 20, Jake Wischmeier scored in the 17 minute on a ball that bounced around the box following a missed header. The Blue Knights made the goal stand up as they won 1-0 for their second shutout of the year. They took on West Virginia Wesleyan College on September 23, and won 3-1, scoring three times on eight shots-on-goal. Goalkeeper Jakob Henriksen won MEC Defensive Player of the Week after stopping 11 shots and only allowing one goal. Jasminko Dizdarevic leads the squad with five goals and 11 points while Henriksen has 25 saves. The Blue Knights like to hop on the board early, outscoring opponents 7-3 in the first half of games this season.

Noting the Mountain Lions: On September 20, Concord traveled to West Virginia Wesleyan and lost 3-2. WVWC took 21 shots to CU's seven. Courtney Skerritt and Maxime Ramioulle each scored a goal for the Mountain Lions. Concord then beat West Liberty, 3-0, on September 23 with Ramioulle, Josh Sheffield and Moulay Hassani all scoring a goal. Ramioulle has put the ball in the net three times this season, while Skerritt has three assists. Goalkeeper Ching Lokus had 15 saves over the two games, which included his first shutout of the season. Lokus has 21 saves in four games and his teammate, Kyle Brown, has 25 saves in three games. However, Lokus has allowed three fewer goals this season. CU is allowing 2.14 goals each game, on average, and they are scoring just 1.29 goals-per-game. They have also been outscored 8-3 in the second half of games, this year.
