No. 16 men's soccer to battle West Chester in NCAA tournament

This week: No. 16 Notre Dame College is the third seed in the Atlantic Region of the NCAA Tournament and they will play against second seeded No. 23 West Chester University, on November 10. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Records: The Falcons have a record of 14-3-1 and West Chester is 12-2-5.

Coaches Corner: Carl Nolan is in his third season at the helm of the NDC men's soccer program. He currently holds a record of 35-14-4, overall, and 27-9-3 in the MEC. Michael Benn is in his sixth season as the head coach at West Chester. He has a record of 66-30-14.

Rankings: Notre Dame is ranked 16th in the United Soccer Coaches poll while West Chester is 23rd in the nation.

Series History: The Falcons have never played West Chester.

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame is going to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015. When the Falcons first joined Division II, they went to the playoffs in 2013-15. Their 14 wins are the most victories in a season since they won 15 games in 2013. Arthur Favero leads the MEC in points, with 30 and assists with eight. He is tied for first with 11 goals. Nicholas Felician is third with four game winning goals. Daniele De Angelis is second in NCAA Division II with 12 shutouts. Notre Dame is fourth in NCAA Division II with a .667 shutout percentage. The Falcons rank second in the Mountain East in goals (43), assists (34) and goals allowed (0.61).

Noting the Golden Rams: West Chester went into the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference as the No. 1 seed. They beat East Stroudsburg University and then fell to Millersville University in penalty kicks, in the championship game. This will be the Golden Rams' third consecutive season in the NCAA playoffs. Jason Pixley is tied for 11th in the nation with five game winning goals. WCU's goalkeeper, Will Marshall, is 11th in the country with a .831 save percentage. Marshall leads the PSAC in goals against average at 0.65 and is second with a .831 save percentage. West Chester ranked seventh in the PSAC with 32 goals scored, but they were first in goals allowed with 12 this season, for an average of 0.63 allowed-per-game. West Chester had nine shutouts this season.

NCAA Tournament: The other matchup in the Atlantic Region bracket will be No. 4 ranked University of Charleston, as the No. 1 seed, hosting Millersville. That game will also begin on Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner of the NDC-WCU matchup will play the victor of the UC-MU matchup, with a chance to play in the Quarterfinals.
