This Week: The Notre Dame College football team looks to end its season with a perfect 11-0 record in its final regular season game of the 2018 year at Seton Hill. The game will be played tomorrow, November 10, at 1 p.m.
Records: Notre Dame is 10-0 (10-0 MEC) after completing an 11-point fourth-quarter comeback at UVa-Wise last week. Seton Hill is 1-9 after a 49-34 loss to Cal. Pa. on November 3.
Coaches Corner: Mike Jacobs is in his third year as the head coach of the NDC football program. He has an overall record of 27-5 (26-4 MEC). Isaac Collins is in his sixth season at the helm of the Seton Hill football team. Collins holds an overall record of 13-52.
Rankings: Notre Dame is ranked No. 11 in the November 5 AFCA Coaches' Poll. The team moved up two spots after being ranked No. 13 last week. NDC debuted at No. 23 on September 24 before moving up to 20, 17, 14, 14, and 13. The Falcons are also the top ranked team in the Super Region One for the third-straight week.
Series History: This is the first matchup between the Falcons and Griffins.
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame has won the pregame coin toss seven times. The Falcons have also received in the second half seven times, six due to deferring their won coin toss to the second half and one due to Concord electing to receive in the first half. NDC has scored on five of those seven second-half opening drives. The team has had mixed success when beginning things in the first half. Notre Dame has once scored on the initial possession of the game, but the team has also turned the ball over twice with an interception and lost fumble. Overall, the Falcons have been strong to start out the second half. Against Shepherd,
Derrick Brumfield forced a fumble on the first possession of the third quarter that led to an NDC touchdown. Fairmont State had a three-and-out to open the second half in week six. And Charleston was held to a field goal on its second-half start. When opponents start the game receiving a kick, the Notre Dame defense has held its ground to not allow any points on opening drives in the first half. Of the seven drives competitors have opened the first halves on, five half led to punts (including two three-and-outs), one ended in an interception while another was capped off with a missed field goal.
Noting the Griffins: If you compare Seton Hill to Notre Dame's Mountain East Conference counterparts, the Griffins rank on the low end of many categories. SHU would be 10th in pass defense (236.5 per game), 11th in rush defense (253.5), and 11th in total defense in the MEC (490.0). The Griffins would fair better on offense with a second ranked pass game (279.8) and fifth ranked total offense (370.0), but their rushing would rank 11th (90.2). The only team better than Seton Hill in the passing game in the MEC is Shepherd. Notre Dame gave up 518 yards and three TDs through the air against the Rams, but also intercepted three passes. The only team worse in rushing defense than SHU in the Mountain East is Concord. The Falcons ran for 440 yards and five touchdowns on the ground against the Mountain Lions.
