Football hosts FSU as Falcons face off

This Week: Notre Dame College football will play Fairmont State tomorrow, October 7 at 12 p.m. on Mueller Field. The game will be broadcasted on live radio, provided through ESPN Cleveland 1540 KNR2.

Records: Notre Dame College is 4-1 after a 24-19 victory against West Liberty. Fairmont State is also 4-1 after defeating UVa.-Wise last week. FSU's lone loss came in nonconference play so the team comes into the game 4-0 in the MEC.

Coaches Corner: Mike Jacobs is in his second year as the head coach of the NDC football program. He has an overall record of 13-3 (12-3 MEC). Jason Woodman is in his fifth season with Fairmont State. Woodman has amassed a record of 26-21 (24-19).

Rankings: Notre Dame received three points in the October 2 AFCA Coaches Poll, but were not ranked in the top 25. FSU received no votes.

Series History: The Falcons are 1-3 all time against FSU. NDC's lone victory came in the first game of the 2014 season. Last year, Fairmont State won 23-19.

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame has had huge success on the ground over the past three games with rushing totals of 433, 307 and 371 in weeks four through six. The Falcons rank fourth in NCAA Division II with 285.6 rushing yards per game. While taking advantage of the running game, NDC has only passed for 303 yards over the past three games; twice passing for fewer than 40 yards.

Noting the Fighting Falcons: Fairmont State has been a defensive power house over the past two seasons in the MEC. In 2016, the Fighting Falcons allowed the second-fewest yards per game (322.5) and second-fewest points per game (19.0). This season, FSU has decreased its opponents' efficiency, allowing just 249.0 yards of total offense per game and 15.2 points, both MEC bests.

Century men: After Nehemiah Brown (154 yards), Malik Grove (130) and Brian Walker (116) each ran for over 100 yards against West Liberty, the Falcons now have seven individual 100-yard performances this season. This ties the most in NDC history with the 2013, 2016 and 2017 seasons. So far four players have reached the century mark, which is an NDC record as well.

Time of Possession: Both NDC and FSU have the ball at or under 29 minutes per game. Each team has only won the time-of-possession battle twice this season.

By the Numbers

3: Of the top four NDC tackle leaders are underclassmen. Jeffrey Thomas (R-Fr.) ranks first with 34 while Curtis Collins (So.) has 27 and Alex Zelch (Fr.) has 24.

10: Tackles recorded by redshirt freshman Jeffrey Thomas against West Liberty. He is the only current NDC player to tally double-digit tackles in a single game. He now leads the Falcons with 34 total tackles (30 of which are unassisted).

11.8: Yards per carry gained by Nehemiah Brown. That is the school record for a running back (min. 10 att.). Malik Grove had 12.6 against Charleston in 2015.
