Men's soccer falls 1-0 to Urbana in MEC Semis

Box Score
URBANA, Ohio -- In a Mountain East Conference Semifinal matchup between familiar foes, the Notre Dame College men's soccer team fell short to the host Urbana Blue Knights, 1-0, on Thursday afternoon at UU Stadium.

The third-seeded Falcons (10-5-2 overall, 8-3-2 MEC) trailed early in the match as Urbana's Lewis Dunne scored a goal just 2:50 into the game to give the second-seeded Blue Knights the early lead. In need of a tying goal, the Falcons attempted eight first-half shot attempts to pressure the Urbana goalkeeper, but were unable to find the back of the net.

After outshooting Urbana 8-5 in the first half, NDC again held the shot advantage 7-6 in the second half. NDC also held the advantage in second-half corner kicks, 5-2, creating chances deep in Blue Knights territory but unable to convert any scoring chances.

Despite holding the 15-11 shot advantage in the game, the Falcons were held scoreless for the first time this season in a narrow road loss to Urbana, 1-0.

With the loss, the Falcons are eliminated from the MEC Tournament and finish the 2016 season with an overall record of 10-5-2, including an 8-3-2 mark against MEC opponents.
