Men's soccer blanks Bloomsburg in 4-0 win

Paiva records fourth hat trick of season in road victory

Box Score
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- The Notre Dame College men's soccer team scored four second-half goals in a 4-0 road win over the host Bloomsburg Huskies on Saturday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium. Leonardo Paiva scored three of the Falcons' four goals, his fourth hat trick of the season, while Guilherme Gloria Albuquerque scored as well to lead NDC to the win.

After a scoreless first half in which NDC outshot the Huskies by a 5-3 margin, the visiting Falcons turned up the offensive intensity in the second half. Leading the charge on offense was 2015 CCA All-American Leonardo Paiva, who scored his 17th goal of the season in the 53rd minute to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

Just a few minutes later in the 60th minute, Guilherme Gloria Albuquerque padded the Falcons' lead with a goal of his own, a direct shot to the back of the net with an assist from David Torralba. The goal from Albuquerque was his second of his season, and it gave NDC a 2-0 lead with 30 minutes remaining in regulation.

But the Falcons weren't done yet.

With NDC holding a 2-0 lead in the 77th minute, Paiva dribbled to the top of the circle and ripped a shot past the Huskies keeper, scoring his second goal of the game. Five minutes later in the 82nd minute, Paiva received a cross from Arthur Favero and drilled a shot to the net to score his third goal of the game.

With three goals in the second half, Paiva recorded his fourth hat trick of the season, all of which have come over the last six games. During that same span, Paiva has scored 15 goals over the last six games, and has 19 goals in 10 games this season.

Holding a 4-0 lead late, the Falcons cruised to the victory line in a non-conference road win over Bloomsburg.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 6-4 overall.

NDC returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at home against the Shepherd Rams in a Mountain East Conference battle. Game time is scheduled for 1 pm at Mueller Field.
