Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame College men's soccer team played its first home game of the 2015 season on Tuesday afternoon, hosting the Shepherd University Rams in the first Mountain East Conference matchup of the year for both sides. The Falcons dominated the game from start to finish, outshooting the Rams 34-1 and winning by a final score of 5-1.
Scoring began early for the Falcons, as
Ryan Ware capitalized on a free kick from 30 yards out, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. However, the Rams would respond with a penalty kick on net, converting to tie the game 1-1 in just the 22nd minute of action.
Throughout the remainder of the first half, the Falcons dominated ball control and took numerous shots on net, but couldn't convert the shots into goals, leading to a 1-1 tie going into the intermission.
The second half, however, belonged to the Falcons.Â
NDC continuously peppered the Rams' goalkeeper with shot after shot, often turning those shots into goals.
Renan Troccoli scored the first of four second-half goals, using a pass from
Leonardo Paiva to score the go-ahead goal, 2-1, in the 47th minute.
However, Troccoli wasn't done there. Less than 10 minutes later, the Sao Paulo, Brazil native scored a header goal off a corner kick from Ware, pushing the advantage to 3-1 in the 56th minute.
Later in the 70th minute, Ware picked up another assist - his second of the game - as he dished a pass to Paiva, who scored a rebound goal off the keeper, pushing the lead to 4-1. The goal was Paiva's third of the season in just three games thus far.
Reymar Klochko-Khoo joined in on the scoring frenzy minutes later, with Paiva assisting him on the play, to score the final goal of the day for NDC, 5-1.
The Falcons' defense faced little-to-no trouble throughout the entire game, with the lone Rams shot coming via penalty kick. The Falcons outshot the Rams 34-1 on the day, and attempted 10 corner kicks to the Rams' zero.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 3-0 on the season, including 1-0 in MEC play. NDC will return to action on Friday, Sept. 10 at home against West Virginia Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
