Men's soccer falls short at Slippery Rock, 2-1

Box Score
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Notre Dame College men's soccer team dropped a tough non-conference matchup against the Rock of Slippery Rock University on Wednesday night at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium, losing 2-1.

The Falcons came out of the gate with an aggressive mindset, creating offensive chances to keep the Rock defense on their heels. While the Falcons kept up the offensive aggressiveness, it was SLU who scored first, using a 44th minute goal from Mike Ilodigwe to take a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

At halftime, the Falcons trailed by a narrow 1-0 score, despite outshooting SLU by a 9-3 margin in the first half. The Falcons also attempted seven corner kicks in the first half alone, compared to just one corner kick attempt from the Rock.

As the second half began, the Falcons carried over that same aggressive mindset on offense. NDC continued to take their shots at the SLU goalkeeper, and finally broke through midway through the second half.

In the 67th minute, Alexis Le Ho found space on the right side and fired a deep shot from 20 yards out, scoring for the Falcons and tying the score at 1-1.

The Falcons continued to press for offensive opportunities, outshooting the Rock by a 13-5 margin in the second half alone. However, it was the Rock who scored the final goal of the game in the 83rd minute, taking a 2-1 lead with just minutes remaining on the game clock.

NDC pushed for a last-minute goal to tie the score, but couldn't force overtime, falling short in a 2-1 road loss to Slippery Rock.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 6-3 on the season, as well as 3-3 in road games.

NDC will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3 on the road against Concord University in a Mountain East Conference showdown. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
