Men's soccer defeats Gannon, 3-1

Box Score On a sunny Sunday afternoon at Mueller Field, the Notre Dame College Falcons defeated the Gannon University Golden Knights by a score of 3-1.

Both teams came into the game looking for their first win of the season;  The Falcons lost 4-1 in their season opener to Mercyhurst University while the Golden Knights lost 6-0 to the University of Charleston.

The game was deadlocked at 0-0 for the first half. NDC had three shots on goal and came closest to putting the ball in the back of the net. GU had zero shots on goal.
The second half saw much of the same action, with both sides jockeying for the upper hand.

With both sides battling for momentum, freshman Felipe Silva rose to the occasion for the Falcons as he scored a goal at the 63:16 mark to give NDC a 1-0 lead.
Just 54 seconds later, the Falcons tacked on another goal as junior Julian Giannotti joined the scoring frenzy at the 64:10 mark.

With a 2-0 lead in hand, the Falcons seemed to be in control of the game. However, the Golden Knights responded with a goal of their own to trim NDC's lead to 2-1, as Gavin Linsell put Gannon on the scoreboard at the 69:57 mark.

With both sides pressing for scoring opportunities, the Falcons used a common connection to net their next goal. Senior Adam Mitchell ran deep into the opposing box and a sliding pass towards the middle found junior Martin Lange, who recorded his first goal of the season to give NDC a commanding 3-1 lead with just 9:29 remaining in the game.

With Lange's late-game goal, the Falcons sealed the victory over the Golden Knights to pick up their first win of the season, improving to 1-1 overall. Gannon dropped to 0-2 on the season.

The Falcons will next play on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
