Box Score BUCKHANNON, West Virginia -- After a tough road loss to Charleston on Wednesday, the Notre Dame Falcons bounced back to beat the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
NDC (4-2, 2-1 MEC) played a closely contested contest to avoid back-to-back road losses. For the Bobcats (2-2-1, 1-1), the match marked their first loss to a Mountain East Conference opponent this season.
In the first half, both teams had convincing possessions but the ball did not find the back of the net. Notre Dame took five shots, one shot on goal for the half. On the other side of the pitch, WVW also took five first half shots, three of which were on goal.
The game was scoreless for the first 70 minutes of the match. In the 71
st minute, the Falcons scored the only goal off the foot of freshman
Alexis Souahy, assisted by junior
Martin Lange.
The Falcons turned up the intensity in the second half, limiting the Bobcats to one second half shot and six for the game. NDC had four second half shots, nine overall.
The Falcons will return to Notre Dame on Tuesday, Sept. 23
rd, as they take on the Findlay Oilers. The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
