Men's soccer beats D&E, improves to 2-1

Falcons defeat Senators 1-0 on the road

Box Score Elkins, W. Va -- Playing on the road for the first time this season, the Notre Dame College men's soccer team traveled to Elkins, West Virginia for a match with Davis & Elkins College. The Falcons defeated the host Senators by a narrow score of 1-0 to pick up their first road win of the season.

In the first half, the Falcons clearly outplayed the Senators in all phases of the game. NDC recorded 10 shots on goal in the first half alone, while D&E only had three shots on goal. NDC also attempted five corner kicks in the first half, and while none of them resulted in a goal, the Falcons clearly had the momentum going into the half.

The Falcons continued to press for the lead in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net. Fortunately, the Falcons benefited from a mistake by D&E, as an own goal by the Senators gave NDC a 1-0 lead at the 57:59 mark.

Clinging to a narrow 1-0 lead, the Falcons were unable to grow their advantage, but did enough to maintain the lead and hold on for the narrow 1-0 victory over the Senators.

NDC finished the game with 16 shots on goal, compared to just six for the Senators. Furthermore, the Falcons took seven corner kicks on the day compared to just two for D&E.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 2-1 on the season, including a 1-0 mark on the road. NDC will compete next on Saturday, Sept. 13 at home against the visiting Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Normandy Field.
