Box Score ATHENS, W.Va -- Playing on the road for the first time in over two weeks, the Notre Dame College men's soccer team pulled off a come-from-behind overtime win against Concord University on Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Jacob Earnest scored a header in the 98th minute, with the assist from junior
Badou Drammeh, to give NDC the 3-2 win.
The Falcons outplayed the Mountain Lions for much of the game, and that was evident early as junior
Ryan Ware scored a goal just 4:16 into the game, with the assist from Earnest.Â
However, in the 35th minute, the Mountain Lions responded with a goal their own from Royale Johnson to knot the score at one. NDC outshot CU 6-2 at the intermission, yet remained tied at the half.
In the second half, the Mountain Lions were the first to strike as they used a 63rd minute goal - their only shot attempt of the half - from Alex Rhodes to take the 2-1 lead.
Trailing 2-1 with time running out, the Falcons continued to create shot opportunities but couldn't find the equalizing goal.
The Falcons then leaned on their veteran leadership as junior
Martin Lange scored a 77th minute goal, with the assist coming from senior
Adam Mitchell, tying the game at two with 13:10 to play.
Neither team was able to take the advantage before regulation was over, thus forcing overtime with the score still tied at two. Both teams went back and forth in the extra period, with both sides struggling to create offensive opportunities.Â
After leaning on the veteran duo of Lange and Mitchell to tie the game in regulation, the Falcons used a header from freshman
Jacob Earnest to win the game in the 98th minute. Junior
Badou Drammeh assisted on the goal after being subbed into the game just one minute prior.
With the overtime win, the Falcons improve to 8-2 on the season, including 5-2 in Mountain East Conference play. The Falcons also improve to 3-1 on the road this season.
NDC will compete next on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at home against the No. 2 Charleston Golden Eagles, who narrowly beat the Falcons 1-0 in overtime on Sept. 17. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
