Men's soccer loses road bout with Urbana

Box Score
URBANA, Ohio -- Playing their 2014 regular season finale on the road, the Notre Dame College men's soccer team fell short against the host Urbana Blue Knights, falling by a score of 2-0.

The Falcons came into the game having already secured the second seed in the upcoming Mountain East Conference Tournament, but wanted to continue to build momentum for the postseason.

The first half featured few offensive opportunities for both sides, as the Falcons only outshot the Blue Knights by a 3-1 margin. However, one shot is all the Blue Knights would need, as Ben Fitzpatrick found the back of the net in the 33rd minute to give Urbana a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, the intensity began to pick up, and so did the offensive chances for each side. The Falcons and Blue Knights fired off eight shots a piece in the second half, but NDC held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-1.

The Falcons pushed for a game-tying goal as the second half went on, but were unable to capitalize on chances. Instead, the Blue Knights scored an 87th-minute goal to essentially ice the game, winning by a final score of 2-0.

With the loss, the Falcons finish the regular season with an overall record of 10-4-2, including a 7-3-2 mark in MEC play.

The Falcons will now await the final schedule for the upcoming MEC Tournament. More information can be found online at www.mountaineast.org.
