Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons saw a 3-0 lead disappear on Tuesday evening at Mueller Field, as they played to a 3-3 tie with West Virginia Wesleyan.
The tie for the Falcons (8-3-2, 5-2-2 MEC) was their second in a row, and leaves them winless in their last three matches, while the draw for the Bobcats (6-3-3, 4-2-2) in the come from behind effort prevented what would have been their first loss since Sept. 23.
Notre Dame didn't waste any time, as they scored the first goal of the contest in the eighth minute.
Declan McGivern found the back of the net, playing it off a pass and put it in to the near post to put the Falcons ahead. The goal was his second of the season.
The Falcons put another goal on the board in the 23rd minute, as
Adam Mitchell scored his fifth goal of the season. Mitchell put it in the back of the net on an assist from
Badou Drammeh, to give the Falcons a 2-0 advantage.
Drammeh scored Notre Dame's third goal in the second period, scoring in the 65th minute. Drammeh's goal came on a rebound off a shot from Mitchell, which hit the crossbar, giving the Falcons a commanding 3-0 advantage.
The comeback for the Bobcats began in the 67th minute, as Jordan Halpern got the Bobcats on the board on a direct free kick from 25-yards out to bring the Bobcats back within two (3-1).
Halpern struck again for the Bobcats in the 71st minute, this time scoring on a penalty kick to bring the Bobcats within one.
With 25 seconds remaining in regulation, RJ Sho-Silva tied the match on a header in front of the net on an assist from Halpern to force overtime.
Both teams had chances to score in each overtime period, but neither side was able to cash in. Notre Dame saw a few opportunities go to waste, as they held an incredible 11-2 advantage in corner kicks, but could not capitalize.
The Falcons are in action again on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they head to Shepherdstown, W.Va., for another Mountain East Conference match against the Rams. The contest is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start.
