Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame College Falcons played host to the visiting Urbana University Blue Knights on Wednesday afternoon at Mueller Field, and came away with an important 4-0 win over a tough conference foe.
Both the Falcons and the Blue Knights fought to establish the tempo early on, but struggled to find many offensive opportunities. Then, in the 31st minute, the Falcons found a spark from senior
Adam Mitchell, who received an assist from freshman
Jacob Earnest to net the first goal of the game for NDC.
Following the goal from Mitchell, the offensive draught returned and the score would remain at 1-0 as both teams went into halftime.
The lack of offense would continue early in the second half, as the Blue Knights struggled to find the equalizing goal and the Falcons couldn't further separate themselves on the scoreboard.
A back-and-forth game became more physical as the game progressed, and eventually the Falcons offense began to break through too..
After assisting Mitchell on the first goal of the game, Earnest added a goal to his stat sheet as he broke away from the Urbana defenders and tacked on another goal for the Falcons, pushing the lead to 2-0 in the 78th minute.Â
Just 62 seconds later, junior
Martin Lange joined the scoring party as he converted on a penalty kick for the Falcons, pushing the lead to 3-0 with less than seven minutes remaining in the match.
Lange wasn't finished, however, as he netted his second goal of the game just minutes later, giving the Falcons a 4-0 victory over the Blue Knights.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 7-2 on the season, including 4-1 in Mountain East Conference play.Â
The Falcons will next compete on Saturday, Oct. 4 on the road at Concord University. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
