FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Notre Dame College men's soccer team secured their place in the inaugural Mountain East Conference Tournament final with a 3-0 victory over the Cardinals from Wheeling Jesuit.
Playing on the campus of Fairmont State University at Duvall Rosier Field the Falcons used goals from
Adam Mitchell,
Renan Troccoli and
Alexander Parkes to win the semi-final matchup.
Junior forward
Adam Mitchell opened the scoring for the Falcons in the 16th minute. Mitchell scored his 14th goal of the season thanks to some good interplay down the left hand side by
Ryan Ware and
Julian Giannotti, who provided the cross for Mitchell to head into the roof of the net.
The Falcons doubled their lead in the 63rd minute courtesy of a
Renan Troccoli goal.
Ryan Ware was again involved in the buildup providing a whipping cross from the left which Troccili met with a right footed volley.
Sophomore defender
Alexander Parkes secured the victory for the Falcons in the 82nd minute with a left-footed strike which he rocketed into the top left-hand corner from 35 yards out.
The Falcons outshot the Cardinals 14-5 in the game.
The Falcons are currently ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA National Coaches poll and No.1 in the NCAA Atlantic Soccer Region move to 15-2-0 on the season.
The Falcons will now play in the MEC Tournament Final on Saturday Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. The match will be hosted by Fairmont State University with the Falcons playing the winner of the Urbana vs. Charleston game.
