SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons faced a tough test on Tuesday evening at Murphy Gymnasium, as the top team in the conference, Wheeling  Jesuit, flexed its muscle in a 3-0 victory over NDC.
For the Falcons (5-25, 3-12 MEC) the loss was only their third at home since Oct. 5, while the victory for Wheeling Jesuit (29-5, 14-0) was their fifth in a row, and they are still the only unbeaten team in conference play this season.
Wheeling Jesuit controlled the contest from the start.  The Cardinals scored the first three points of the opening set, and continued on their tear by scoring nine out of the first 10 points in the first set and never looked back.  Wheeling Jesuit led by double digits for most of the set, and came away with a 25-10 victory.
Notre Dame took their first lead of the evening at the beginning of the second set. The Cardinals answered that quickly with five consecutive points, and continued that run by scoring 10 out of the first 13 points of the second set.  They closed out the second set with ease, and won, 25-10.
Much like the second set, Notre Dame scored first, but that first point was answered by four from the Cardinals.  Notre Dame stayed with Wheeling Jesuit for a while, as they trailed just 7-5, but the Cardinals then went on a 10-2 run to take control, and came away with a 25-15 victory to seal the deal.
Lindsay Shirilla paced the Falcons offensively with 12 kills on the night, and hit .391 in the process. A trio of Falcons,
Kristen Hill,
Katie Sullivan and
Taylor Thomas all contributed with four kills each.
Shelby Regiec had 23 assists, while

The Falcons will finish the regular season on Friday, Nov. 15, when they play host to Charleston (W.Va.) at Murphy Gymnasium. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
