CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Notre Dame College men's soccer team suffered only their second defeat of the season, falling 3-2 at the University of Charleston.
The Falcons (9-2-0) showed a lot of heart in a challenging game but were unable to quite do enough to keep up with the Golden Eagles.
The Falcons fell behind early on as Charleston scored from a deflected shot in 20th minute. The Golden Eagles doubled their lead in the 27th from the penalty spot. The Falcons however responded well despite the early deficit and were rewarded in the 35th minute when free kick expert
Martin Lange was on target from 20 yards out.
Charleston restored their two-goal cushion almost immediately into the second half, scoring from a break down the right hand side in the 46th minute.NDC continued to press and worked hard to create opportunities but were unable to force a break through until the 89th minute when
Adam Mitchell sored his tenth goal of the season. The Falcons still had time to create one more opportunity but the shot went agonizingly wide.
The loss to the Golden Eagles is the first Mountain East Conference loss of the season for the Falcons and only their second loss of the season.
The Falcons will return home to Mueller Field on Saturday Oct. 12. to take on Wheeling Jesuit at 1 p.m.
