SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons hosted Fairmont State at Murphy Gymnasium on Friday night, and fell to the Fighting Falcons in three sets.
For the Falcons (2-15, 0-3) the loss was their third in a row, and their first at home this season, while the victory for Fairmont State (13-3, 3-0) was their third in four road games, and their fifth in their last six games overall.
Fairmont State took the opening set, 25-17. Notre Dame remained close in the early stages of the first set, and were within one (5-4), when the Fighting Falcons went on a 7-0 to take control and never looked back.Â
The second set was pretty tight in the early goings, as FSU and NDC exchanged a few modest runs. Tied at 2-2, FSU went on to score the next four points to take a 6-2 advantage, but NDC returned the favor with their own 4-0 run tie the contest. Notre Dame continued to hang around, and tied things up at 11-11, when Fairmont State caught fire. FSU scored four in a row, and 12 out of the next 17 points en route to a 25-18 victory.
Notre Dame went toe-to-toe with FSU in the final set. While the Fighting Falcons led by as many as five (13-8), NDC never went away, and made FSU work for every last point. The Falcons did not take any leads in the first two sets, but led on three separate occasions in the final set. NDC was ahead 20-19, before Fairmont State went on a 6-3 run to score the victory and end the match.
Lindsay Shirilla paced the Falcons with 12 kills on the night, and
Brittany Perrott led the charge for NDC defensively with 14 digs.Â
Shelby Regiec has 21 assists to go along with seven assists.
The Falcons are in action again on Saturday, Oct. 5, when they play host to the Rams of Shepherd University. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
