SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame College Men's Soccer continued their unbeaten record at home with a 1-0 victory over Wheeling Jesuit on Mueller Field.
The Falcons (10-2-0) needed a lot of patience and perseverance as the Cardinals produced a strong defensive performance.
NDC controlled possession in the first half and out shot the Cardinals by eight shots to four. However neither team was able to create a clean-cut opportunity and the game remained scoreless at the half.
The Falcons made some good adjustments at the half and began to use the full width of Mueller field, utilizing the pace of
Christopher Fairley and
Renan Troccoli.
However, it wasn't until the 73rd minute that the Falcons finally got the breakthrough.
Adam Mitchell created some space for himself down the left hand side and was able to provide a great ball across the box, which was met by
Martin Lange who added the finishing touch. Lange now has five goals on the season.
The Cardinals to their credit did not sit back at any point providing a strong physical challenge throughout. The Falcons however maintained their resolve with the back four producing a strong performance to earn a 1-0 victory.
Goalkeeper Jan Skorupinksi recorded his tenth victory of the season and combined with his defense for the Falcons sixth shut out of the season.
The Falcons will look to continue winning ways when they head to Buckhannon, W.Va. on Wednesday Oct. 16 to take on the Bobcats from West Virginia Wesleyan.
