Box Score
NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- Senior midfielder
Erik Beattie scored three goals and the Falcon defense pitched its third shutout of the season, as Notre Dame beat Walsh, 4-0, on Thursday night.
NDC allowed just one shot on goal in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tilt, and Beattie collected all of his goals in the first half of action. With the win, Notre Dame (5-1, 3-1 GLIAC) remained unbeaten in its all-time series with Walsh; the Falcons are now 8-0-1 against the Cavaliers. Walsh (2-4, 2-2) is now 1-3 over its last four matches.
Beattie got things going on Thursday with a goal at the 10-minute mark, a header off a centering pass from
Christian Earnest.
Earnest would figure in Beattie's second goal also, again centering a ball to the Madison, Ohio, native, who nodded it into the lower right corner of the goal. That netfinder occurred in the game's 14th minute. Beattie made it a first-half hat trick in the 28th minute when he scored off a rebound to put Notre Dame up, 3-0.
The Falcons finished things off with a
Jacob Sheppard goal off a corner in the 74th minute.
Ryan Ware assisted on Sheppard's score.
Beattie had not scored a goal in NDC's previous five matches. His hat trick marked the first for a Falcon player this season. NDC has now outscored foes, 19-5, in the team's six matches.
Earnest remained hot for the Falcons -- the senior from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, has now scored at least one point in four consecutive games. Over that stretch Earnest has three goals and three assists.
Notre Dame will continue its season with a home match on Sunday. The Falcons are slated to take on the Timberwolves of Northwood University (Mich.) in a Korb Field tilt kicking off at 2 p.m.
