NDC defeats Malone 5-2

Falcons salvage weekend with sunday victory

Box Score LYNDHURST, OH- Coming off Friday's loss to ODU, the Falcons redeemed themselves defeating Malone 5-2.   

The Malone Pioneers were (0-3, GLIAC 0-2) coming into today's contest and have now lost four straight (0-4, GLIAC 0-3).  The Falcons (3-1, 1-1 GLIAC) coming into the match have beaten Malone three times when facing off the last two years (2010-11) and added another to the win column (4-1, GLIAC 2-1).

In the first period, Malone answered quickly with a goal netted by junior, Kelvin Aquino, his first goal of the year giving the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead in the third minute of the period. At the 11th minute junior, Tom Owens booted a penalty kick goal to tie the game 1-1.  The Falcons strike back at the net when in the 15th minute senior Christian Earnest knocked a header goal past goal keeper Felipe Monteiro breaking the tie, giving NDC a 2-1 lead.  Earnests' goal gives him three goals on the season.  Ryan Ware was credited on the assist giving him his first assist on the year. The Falcons continued being aggressive near the goal when freshman, Renan Troccoli tapped in an easy cross from Earnest at the 22nd minute mark giving the Falcons a 3-1 lead over the Pioneers.        

In the second period, Tom Owens netted his second penalty shot of the day in the 47th minute of the game, giving NDC a comfortable 4-1 lead.  Owens' goal gave him seven goals on the year.  At the 53rd minute mark, Malone converts on a penalty shot from junior, Rubem Miranda giving him his first goal of the campaign and cut NDC's lead in half, 4-2.  Getting into the NDC offensive mix freshman Connor McFall in the 74th minute mark found the back of the net bumping the Falcons lead to a 5-2 score.        

The Falcons outshot the Pioneers 26-15.  NDC's goalkeeper Jan Skorupinski collects six saves when Malone goalkeeper Felipe Monteiro saved eight shots on the day.

The Falcons next game is slated for Thursday, September 20th at Walsh University (Canton, Ohio 7p.m.).
