NDC's 22 game winning streak comes to an end

ODU wins 2-1, snapping NDC's home winning streak

LYNDHURST, OH- The Notre Dame Falcons saw their 22 game winning streak come to an end on Friday evening in a 2-1 loss against Ohio Dominican.  

The loss also brought an end to Notre Dame's (3-1-0, 1-1-0 GLIAC) 18 game home winning streak which started on Oct. 27, 2009.  The victory for the Panthers (2-2-0, 1-1-0) snapped a two game slide.

In the first period, both defenses performed well, fighting for every possession. Towards the end of the period ODU's Jake Szabo netted a goal at the 42nd minute in the corner of the net giving them an early 1-0 lead.  The Falcons had nine shots on goal with ODU attempting five shots on goal in the period.      

In the second half, the Falcons come out with a different mindset early and senior defender/forward Christian Earnest netted a header shot at the 38:15 mark of the second period to tie the game at 1-1.  Junior Tom Owens was credited on the assist giving him five assists on the year. 

The Panthers struck back when senior Justin Wheeler of ODU booted a corner shot goal at the 73rd minute to get back in the lead 2-1 and would eventually be the game winner.      

On the night, the Falcons were able to send off 26 shots, 15 more than the Panthers, but only nine shots were on goal for NDC, while ODU's goalie, Dean Dziewit made eight saves on the evening. 

The Falcons next soccer match is Sunday afternoon vs. Malone University (Korb Field, 2 p.m.).
