UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.-- The Falcons defeated the Panthers in double overtime, 1-0 on
Ryan Ware's game winning goal in 2-OT, Friday afternoon at Saginaw Valley.
Ryan Ware netted a game winning goal at the 105th minute- mark with the ball being played from the right side about 18 yards away in double overtime to send Notre Dame to the Conference Championship on Sunday. Renan Trocolli was credited on the assist. With the win, NDC has now tallied their seventh shutout of the season.
Notre Dame (14-4, 9-4 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) and Ohio Dominican (12-6-1, 9-4 GLIAC) split their season series matchup on the year coming into the game. ODU and NDC are now 3-3-1 all-time in the season series record with NDC's win today.
Notre Dame was riding a three game winning streak coming into Friday's match with the Panthers and have added their total to now four games. In the last five matches, the Falcons have only allowed three net finders to the opponent and kept that mark to three, not allowing ODU to score in the match.
The Falcons have won three conference titles prior to when they were in the American Mideast Conference and are looking to make it four titles.
In the first period it was a hard fought defensive battle with neither team denting the scoreboard in the match. NDC outshot the Panthers 10-5 in the first half. Notre Dame goal keeper
Jan Skorupinski had three saves in the period with ODU's goalkeeper Macklin Robinson defending four shots on goal.
In the second half both defenses remained very tough not allowing a single goal in the period forcing overtime in a hard fought, gut wrenching duel in Saginaw Valley. In overtime the Falcons defense continued their hard fought defense, holding its own to force double overtime and would win the game on
Ryan Ware's game winning goal in the second overtime.
NDC outshot the Panthers of ODU 17-13 in the game.
NDC will play their Conference Championship match on Sunday in Saginaw Valley (time to be determined). The Falcons will play the winner of the Northwood-Saginaw Valley match.
