Falcons tame Panthers, take GLIAC South

NDC scores division title, first round bye in 2-1 win

Box Score
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons came from behind to score another big road victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating Ohio Dominican, 2-1, to claim the GLIAC South Division crown.

The victory for the Falcons (13-4-0) was their third in a row, and earned them a first round bye in the GLIAC tournament.  The loss for Ohio Dominican (11-5-1) halted a five game winning streak.

The Panthers, who upset the Falcons, 2-1, at Korb Field earlier this year to end NDC's 22-game winning streak, got on the board first, at the 11:35-mark, on Colby Catlett's goal.  However, ODU's offense could not put much of a threat together after that, as they were only able to get five shots off after Catlett's goal.

Notre Dame responded less than five minutes later, when Erik Beattie found the back of the net for his first of two goals on the day.  Beattie's goal at the 11:56-mark tied things up, and he gave the Falcons the lead a few moments later.

The Falcons snapped a 1-1 tie in the 37th minute, on Beattie's header that went over the head of ODU goalie Macklin Robinson.  Beattie's goal was his 10th of the season, Ryan Ware was credited with the assist.

NDC applied pressure all throughout the contest, and outshot the Panthers, 26-6 on the afternoon.

Beattie's goals put him at the head of the class in the GLIAC.  The senior from Madison, Ohio, leads the conference in goals (10) and points (20).

Notre Dame's next contest will be played at Saginaw Valley State (Mich.), on Friday, Nov. 2.  Saginaw Valley locked up the top seed in the tournament, and they will host.

Ohio Dominican and Malone will square off in the first round of the GLIAC tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m.  The winner of that game will face the Falcons on Friday, Nov. 2, in Saginaw Valley at noon.
