LYNDHURST, Ohio-- The Falcons defeated Case Western Reserve, 5-0, on Sunday afternoon at Korb Field.
The five goals marked the most NDC (11-4) has netted in a single game since beating Malone, 5-2, on Sept. 16. The home victory served as a bounce-back to the Falcons being shut out in their last match (1-0 at Malone on Friday). That scoreless game marked NDC's first since 2008.
For the Spartans, the loss marked their seventh straight defeat. CWRU (3-11-1) was limited to just nine shots in Sunday's contest. Notre Dame managed to get off 19 shots.
Midfielder
Erik Beattie notched his 29th career goal to lead things off in a first-half scoring barrage. Beattie scored in the ninth minute, and he was followed into the net by
Sam Vail moments later as the Falcons built a 2-0 lead by the 9:52-mark.
The onslaught continued with a
Ryan Ware goal in the 18th minute. CWRU then added to its own demise with an own goal at 31:30.
Colton Tanner rounded out Notre Dame's big opening half by banging in a nine-yarder off a rebound in the 33rd minute. By the end of the half, NDC led, 5-0, and six different Falcon players had registered points.
Neither side dented the scoreboard in the second half giving Notre Dame's it's sixth shutout of the season. Notre Dame only allowed three shots in the second half.
NDC will play its final home game of the year on Thursday when the Falcons host the Cavaliers of Walsh University. (Korb Field, 7 p.m.)
