NDC's third game of the season was the 2010 home opener for an improved Fairmont State team that cranked out 534 total yards in running their record to 2-0.
Despite not being able to light any digits on the Duvall-Rozier Field scoreboard, the Notre Dame offense was more efficient and productive. The Falcons moved the chains but were unable to hit paydirt. NDC (1-2) finished with 233 yards of offense, a 42-yard improvement on their game-two performance at Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on week ago.
Fairmont State struck first and did so quickly. Quarterback Logan Moore hit receiver Perry Baker in stride for a 62-yard pass play on FSU's second play from scrimmage. The two-play drive took all of 56 seconds.
The Fighting Falcons scored again on their second drive, this time on a longer, more methodical drive lasting over four minutes (4:06). That drive, which went 52 yards in eight plays, was capped off by a 5-yard Pat Pinchinat run.
FSU held a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The host squad would extend that lead to 21-0 by halftime with Pinchinat's second TD run of the afternoon, an 11-yarder at 8:08.
In the third, FSU tacked on one score, a 38-yard scamper by Moore after a brilliant fake handoff.
The host Falcons added a field goal and another long scoring pass to Baker to round out the scoring in the fourth.
For the game, Logan Moore was 16-of-23 for 202 yards. The Fairmont offense displayed an impressive balance, rolling up 256 yards in the air and another 278 on the ground. Running back Pat Pinchinat finished with 84 yards on 16 carries to lead the FSU ground corps. The Fighting Falcons averaged 6.8 yards per carry.
Notre Dame's offense was led by the power running of freshman running back #Pedro Powell#, who gained 49 yards on 11 carries (4.5 yards per rush). The Falcons gained 119 yards on the ground and added another 114 in the air. Junior quarterback #Yan Cyr# was 12-of-26 for 114 passing yards; the Quebec native was sacked five times by a stingy Fairmont State defense.
The NDC defense was led by linebacker #Gary Briggs#, who recorded eight tackles and one sack.
