NDC put finishing touches to D. Wayne Evans Classic with 4-0 win over Grace

RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- The Falcons (2-0-0) picked up their second consecutive victory, a 4-0 result at the D. Wayne Evans Classic over Grace College (0-3-0). The seventh-ranked (NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll) Falcons outshooting their opponent 21-5, for the game, sailed to a second consecutive shutout victory. (Box) (Audio Recap)

“Pleased overall with the performances, certainly very pleased with the results we got the last two days.” Coach Michael “Mac” McBride said. “It was a nice for us to get as many people on the field as we did. It was great experience for a lot of people who are new to our program.” 

#Luke Holmes#, a junior forward from Oldham, England picked up his first tally of the year when he redirected a ball from #Kyle Hayes# putting the Falcons ahead in the first half.
Seven minutes after the break, #Jacob Childs#, a senior defender from Surrey, England, doubled the Falcons lead with a solo effort. 

Hayes, a sophomore midfielder from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, took matters into his own feet extending the NDC lead to three goals at the 24:42 mark of the second half. Not to be outdone by Hayes' effort, Holmes became the provider for the Falcons' fourth and final goal at the 18:38 mark, giving senior #Steven Kane# his first goal of the season. 

The second period, NDC produced 12 shots (six on goal). The Falcons' defense stifled the Grace attack only allowing two shots in the second. 

#Alex Klein#, a junior goalkeeper from Frankfurt, Germany, went the distance and earned his second consecutive shutout.

NOTES FROM THE NEST … 

RUNAWAY RETURNS: Holmes was the runaway scoring leader in the AMC for 2009. He piled up 28 goals and four assists for a total of 60 points. Holmes lead the country in goals scored and rated second in overall scoring with 3.53 points per game. 

CLEAN SHEETS: NDC kept their first back to back clean sheets since Oct. 10, 2009 vs. Urbana (5-0) and Oct. 14, 2009 vs. Malone (12-0). 

DOUBLE DOUBLE: The Falcons utilized 22 players over two day tournament 

SIX FOR SEVEN: Six Falcons accounted for all seven goals. #Tom Mellor# was the only Falcon to record two goals on the weekend. 

A LOOK AHEAD TO NEXT WEEK -- Notre Dame plays another twin bill next week, traveling to Scherville, Ind., to take on Iowa Wesleyan Saturday, Sept. 4 and either Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) or Marygrove College (Mich.)in the Calumet Crimson Wave Invitational. The Falcons return to the Crimson Wave Invitational for the first time since 2007 when they defeated Culver-Stockton (Mo.) 2-0 and drawing 2-2 with St. Amrose (Ia.). The Falcons' First whistle is at 5:30 p.m. (EST) on Friday for the opening match, Saturday's match time is yet to be announced.
