Really Big Show tandem to call Falcon Football opener

Rizzo and Goldhammer tabbed for game-1 broadcast

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- ESPN Cleveland has announced their broadcast team for Notre Dame's inaugural football game on Aug. 28. The “Really Big Show” tandem of Tony Rizzo and Aaron Goldhammer will call the Saturday-night contest (7 p.m., ESPN 850 WKNR ) against Mercyhurst (Pa.).

Rizzo and Goldhammer are the primary on-air personalities on “The Really Big Show” which airs Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-noon on WKNR. Tony Rizzo, also a sports anchor on Fox-8 television, was born and raised in Cleveland and has long been a member of the Cleveland sports-media scene. On “The Really Big Show”, Aaron Goldhammer serves as Rizzo's foil in a format that features passionate sports talk with a comic flavor. Goldhammer also does play-by-play for other games on WKNR. Rizzo and “Hammer” have been on the air together since 2007.

Saturday's game broadcast will begin at 6:45 p.m.; the Notre Dame-Mercyhurst kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be held at Korb Field (Brush High School) in Lyndhurst, Ohio. The broadcast will also be streamed live on ESPNCleveland.com.

“We are very pleased to have Tony Rizzo and Aaron Goldhammer call our first game,” said Notre Dame Director of Athletics, Susan Hlavacek. “They have such a strong presence in the morning on WKNR, and I think our fans will really enjoy their take on what should be a fun night.”

On July 12, Notre Dame announced that it had partnered with ESPN Cleveland on a multi-level agreement that involves football and other athletic events being covered on ESPN 850 WKNR, ESPN 1540 KNR2 and ESPNCleveland.com. As part of that partnership, the balance of NDC's 11-game inaugural football season will be carried on KNR2 and ESPNCleveland.com. NDC Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Andy Barch will be the lead play-by-play announcer for the KNR2 games.

The NDC-ESPN Cleveland partnership also includes the weekly KNR2 broadcast of Falcon Football Weekly, a recap-and-preview show featuring Notre Dame Head Coach #Adam Howard# and hosted by ESPN Cleveland's Will Burge. Falcon Football Weekly will offer fans an insider look at NDC Football and feature guest appearances by Falcon players and coaches. The show will air on Thursdays, from 1-1:30 p.m. on ESPN 1540 KNR2, beginning Aug. 26. Falcon Football Weekly will be streamed live and archived on ESPNCleveland.com.

Also on Monday, Notre Dame announced that WELW 1330 would broadcast games tape-delay, beginning with NDC's game at Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on Sept. 4. For WELW air times, visit NotreDameFalcons.com.
