Coaching his 200th match for the Falcons,
Michael "Mac" McBride guided the boys in blue and white to their record 16th victory in as many matches and their 11th shutout.
The Falcons would outshoot the visiting Raiders 13-3 and hold a 2-0 advantage in corners through the opening 45 minutes, but neither team would find the back of the net.
According to McBride, "Roberts Wesleyan traveled to Cleveland by bus, they then parked that bus in front of their 18 yard box. Well, it certainly seemed that way. They were very hard to breakdown."
The second half of regulation the Raiders would be whistled for 14 infractions and earn three yellow card cautions compared to the Falcons 6 fouls and two yellow cards. NDC would hold distinct advantages in each offensive category, 10-3 in shots, 6-2 in shots on goal and 3-0 in corner kicks except goals. The two teams would end regulation tied just as the game started 0-0.
Playing their first overtime match of the season Notre Dame would outshoot the Raiders 6-0 and 1-0 on corner kicks. At the 99:22 mark,
Erik Beattie would put the finishing touch on Jacob Child's long range strike sending the Falcon fans and team streaming onto Korb Field in celebration. The Falcons 7-0-0 conference record will insure them a share of the regular season American Mideast Conference crown with just one game remaining against Point Park (7-8-0, 2-5-0 AMC). The Falcons 21 points in seven games leads second place Houghton (11-5-0, 6-1-0 AMC) by three points. The Falcons defeated Houghton 1-0 on Wednesday Sept. 29 at Korb Field in their AMC opener.
The Falcons will travel to Point Park Saturday Oct. 30 for their final regular season tilt. Saturday's match can be heard on NotreDameFalcons.com with Rudy Roediger and bringing you the action. Coverage scheduled to begin 30 minutes before kickoff, directly following the women's soccer broadcast scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.
