NDC Football inks Friend

Lorain County's best joins first-year program

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame Football announced today that Shane Friend has signed an NAIA Letter of Intent to continue his football career with the Falcons.

Friend comes to College Road from LaGrange, Ohio, where he was a standout safety for North Ridgeville High School and Head Coach Jeff Reisen. Hyde was a three-year letterman for the Rangers in football; he also lettered four times in wrestling.

“We are lucky to have a player of Shane's caliber to help start our program,” said Notre Dame Head Coach Adam Howard.

Friend was named the 2008 Lorain County Defensive MVP for his work in the Ranger secondary. Friend is a two-time All-Lorain County and All-West Shore Conference performer as a junior and senior (2007, 2008). Friend was also named Second Team All-Northeast Ohio both years as well. Friend was also a standout in wrestling as well, being named all four years as All-Lorain County while compiling an overall record of 119-33, including a 29-1 mark as a senior.

The son of Chuck Friend and Valerie McGee plans on beginning classes at Notre Dame in the fall and majoring in sports management.

The development of a Football program at Notre Dame College was announced on Nov. 25. With their development of a team, Notre Dame becomes the only scholarship football team in the metropolitan Cleveland area.
